I think one of the challenges here is that you risk the possibility that due to all the stress and burnout managers have had to deal with - especially post pandemic, per your point - is that they’re just that, burnt out. The passion to build for a particular company may not be as strong as it once was. Nevertheless, I think your thesis is still correct, those with the passion and mindset to build and build intelligently are the right ones to place in these positions.

Yeah, I think the post-pandemic burnout is why this trend is not 10x larger right now — a lot of managerial skills add value “out of the box” when working with agents, but to truly be effective there’s still a re-tooling learning curve (building harnesses, for example).

As knowledge about these tools diffuses across the dev ecosystem — and as demand and signing bonuses rise — I suspect we will see a mass shift of managerial talent to high-powered MTS roles!
